Description

This Labor Day Color by Number and Text Marking activity is the perfect way to bring life to the topic! Students read a non-fiction passage and search for answers while marking evidence from the text. Perfect reading comprehension activity.

Topics include: Interesting facts about the history of Labor Day.

Students complete a โ€œbefore readingโ€ anticipation guide, read about Labor Day, answer questions, mark the text for evidence, color the picture according to their answer, and complete the โ€œafter readingโ€ anticipation guide.

This is a great cross curriculum activity that also practices Language Arts skills and citing evidence. You can use this activity to assess prior knowledge. You can use this activity as a unit review. Lastly, you could use the student worksheet as a quiz or formative and then let them color as a reward! You choose what works best for you.

I enjoyed the format, but found the piece that grabbed them was when I assigned each student 2 specific questions to answer for the whole group. Nice assignment for a short class period.

  17. LINDA C. –

This has been a great resource on the Friday before Labor Day. My students have been back to school for a full two weeks, and they are usually worn out by Labor Day. Chromebooks are put away for this lesson, and we do some “old-school” reading & coloring. I don’t print the anticipatory set but use it as a whole group stand up/sit down (or raise your hand if you think it is true). I have found that many of them have no idea what Labor Day is about, so it works well in my American History class.

  18. Stephanie R. –

    My students really enjoyed this!

  20. Rikki R. –

    Great early finisher activity
