Are Digital Escape Rooms Effective?

Have you heard of digital escape rooms? They are one of the best ways to get students engaged in the material you are working on in class and help them apply what they know!

What is a digital escape room?

Let’s start with the question of what is an escape room before we jump into digital escape rooms.

Escape rooms have become a prevalent form of entertainment for people worldwide. An escape room is usually a physical room where a group of people goes together. They are shut in the room with clues and puzzles to solve and find keys in order to literally and physically escape the room.

A digital escape room is done digitally, or on the computer. A digital escape room still allows people to solve problems with clues and puzzles in order to conquer the room or complete the task. Digital escape rooms are interactive and allow people using them to read, answer questions, and solve puzzles and codes in order to move through the escape room.

How does a digital escape room help my students?

Especially today, students are used to technology being everywhere. If your students don’t have their own phone, tablet, or laptop, they are in the minority nowadays. Technology goes hand-in-hand with education in our world. Using digital escape rooms will help your students be connected to the technological world they understand while learning and using the knowledge you are teaching in your classroom.

Digital escape rooms allow students to apply what they learn in class in a fun and different way. By reviewing material taught in class with a digital escape room, students will be exposed to the lessons in a different way so that they remember even better. Research shows that the more ways students are exposed to the material, the better they remember. Students benefit from hearing, seeing, and writing, and now they can interact with a digital escape room to review and share the lessons.

Digital Escape Rooms for Team-Building

There are professional businesses that use digital escape rooms for team-building. You can use digital escape rooms as team-building exercises for your students. We have all had a class that could learn how to work together better. Some of us have had a class like that every single year we’ve taught. For those classrooms and students, working together to solve a digital escape room is a great way to learn how to work better as a team.
