This was quit a bargain. I havenโt done them all yet but The Declaration of Indepenance was awesome. It was a great way to celebrate the ending of out Revolutionary War unit. Directions were easy to follow and the clues had just the right amount of challenged mix with review.

I paid for the bundle of 4 for US History. I have neverrrr seen my students so engaged. I used it as an introduction to the causes of the American Revolutionary War. Everything you need is included and more. I was thinking of ways to give my Special Ed and lower level learners extra help but as I was reviewing the file I noticed it is already included! All I did was copy the 4 Codes ( I used one packet for two students) and then I copied 7 Decoders (for each of the 4 codes) and put them in a plastic sleeve for protection. I then taped file folders in 4 locations around the room and slipped 7 decoders into each of those files. I used the rule: Each team can only possess 2 decoders at a time and must be returned as soon as you are done with it. Students grabbed what they needed and returned to their spots. Even my most difficult students were engaged. I have classes from 13-22 this year but I can easily see this being successful in classes of all sizes. After introducing the game (I hyped it up by playing spy music from YouTube and making them take a SPY oath: I promise, that what happens in Escape Room, stays in Escape Room. I promise, to follow all classroom expectations and rules. I promise, to be a good sport whether I lose or win.) students had about 35 mins. One class solved in 25 minutes and one class didn’t solve it at all but the rest of my classes solved at between 30-35 minutes. I even had students stay after school to finish! Before students were allowed to try the lock, I checked their work to make sure they completed each code. This was helpful because someone broke their spy oath and told a few of my afternoon kids over lunch. They immediately had the 4 digit lock combination but could not collect prizes unless they solved all 4 codes. So cheating isn’t really a big issue. I also collect all material at the end of class to help with cheating. At the end of class I surveyed students and they overwhelmingly want to do this game again which is awesome especially since they have to earn to play. Thank you for the awesome resource.
