Marketing on Etsy can be a challenge. I’ve found success with Facebook and even Pinterest, but the bread and butter of my business comes from my Etsy email listserv. Your email list is entirely yours and gives you potential to grow your business like no other platform. Need an email course specifically made for printable sellers? Check out this Email Marketing Course to learn more. Here are reasons why you should start your email list today!

1. How Can an Email List Help with Steady Sales?

I love selling on Etsy, but sales can be unpredictable. This is a pain point for a lot of Etsy sellers, especially when you’re starting out. Unlike social media channels, your emails arrive directly in your listserv’s inbox. There’s not guessing on Facebook algorithms or TikTok for you pages.  Your email list is all yours, and you can see who is clicking on links and their buying patterns. This is a winning move to make your plan for your email list flow.

2. How Can You have Ownership and Control of Your Etsy Business?

You don’t actually own your Etsy store or any of your social media platforms for that matter. Your email list? It’s all yours. Once your customers (or potential customers) hit that subscribe or opt-in button, they’re on your list until they unsubscribe. Whether I am sending my listserv tips on growing their Etsy business or info on the  Easy Escape Room Course, I know they have access to everything I share. Plus, I use the strategies in this email course to make sure I am using my list to convert my emails to sales.

3. How Does an Email List Help with Long-Term Growth and Sales?

Not everyone on your email list starts as a buyer. In fact, a huge part of my email list are people who started out opting in with freebies I posted or getting on the waitlist for the  Easy Escape Room Course. Once they’re subscribed, you can effectively convert them into buyers. Eventually those buyers can become long term customers and even fans that forward your emails and give testimonials about your Etsy products. That’s when the magic really starts to happen!

4. Which Email Marketing Provider Should You Choose?

There are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to email marketing providers or ESPs. Some even offer free trials to see if it’s the right fit for you and your business. Here are some different email marketing providers that will give that extra flair and get your info in front of your awesome audience.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is the best platform for beginners with easy drag-and-drop features and so many adorable, fun templates. It also provides automation, testing, and segmentation (labeling for different audiences). Mailchimp also offers a free plan for up to 1,000 sends/month if you’re just getting started. Paid plans start at $13 a month after a free month trial. Once you start to grow your list, you’ll love the analytics options Mailchimp offers.

Flodesk

Flodesk is a newer platform known for its user-friendly interface and elegant email builder. Pricing is straightforward at $38 per month for unlimited subscribers and access to all features. (They have referral deals all the time too.) Although there aren’t as many third party integrations as Flodesk, they’re adding options all the time.

ConvertKit

ConvertKit has always been really popular with Etsy sellers for email lists.  There is a free plan available for up to 1,000 subscribers and limited features. There are templates available, but the analytics are the big selling point on this platform. ConvertKit also focuses on audience experience and segmenting your audience for personalized content.

When choosing an email marketing provider, assess your specific needs, design preferences, budget, and the intended audience to make the best decision for your business.

5. How Does Creating a Lead Magnet Help Build Your Email List?

A lead magnet is like an awesome freebie, something super valuable that you give away for free in exchange for someone’s email. It’s the first step in getting a bunch of engaged subscribers on your email list. After you’ve got those subscribers, your job is to keep them happy and get them interested in buying your printables. Once they click subscribe to get your lead magnet, you can keep them hooked by providing valuable content (tips, freebies, and even items for sale) in their inbox.

Lead magnets can be usable printables or even tip sheets. Here are some ideas for lead magnets for your Etsy kid printables email list.

  • Printable Coloring Pages
  • Activity Worksheets
  • Crafting Templates
  • Mini Ebooks
  • Printable Games
  • Educational Printable
  • Printable Calendar
  • Reward Chart

I like to give a sample of a product. For example, sharing a puzzle from an escape room encourages the subscriber to buy the whole escape room (or sign up for the Easy Escape Room Course if they love what they see!

Remember, the key is to make your lead magnet both valuable and aligned with your printable business. Once subscribers receive their lead magnet, keep them engaged with your brand by providing a mix of helpful content, occasional freebies, and offers for your printables in their email inbox.

6. What are Some Opt-in Placement Strategies to Grow Your Email List?

Wondering where to drop that sign-up form to snag some potential subscribers? Well, you’ve got options galore! Think Etsy header, your shop announcement, the last pic in your product showcase, Facebook groups, your profile on Facebook, Insta bio, Pinterest, TikTok, your website, Instagram reels, Facebook stories, your blog, Twitter bio, LinkedIn – you name it! But here’s the kicker: the absolute VIP spot is sneakily slipping a link to your sign-up right inside every PDF download you dish out.

7. Why is it Important to Comply with Etsy Policies with Your Listserv?

Be careful to follow Etsy’s rules about promotions and talking with your customers. It’s super important to follow Etsy’s policies on communication. One major rule of thumb is not to hit up your customers with unsolicited promo stuff. If you go rogue on this, you’re taking a risk that could lead to your Etsy shop getting the boot. So, keep it on the up-and-up and stay in Etsy’s good graces!

8. How Do You Avoid Regret with Your Email List?

Starting your email list might seem a bit scary at first. However, ask any online business pro about their journey, and chances are, they’ll tell you they wish they’d kicked off their email list earlier. Starting my email list has helped me build my brand and sell more than $1 million kids printables! It’s also been perfect to grow my Cloaked in Fun TpT course and the Easy Escape Room Course. Avoid FOMO, and start creating your email list today!
